SUT · Multi-Functional Sports Step Platform

Sports Platform 1 Sports Platform 2 Sports Platform 3 Sports Platform 4

Led the full product development cycle — from opportunity identification through conceptual design, technical specification, and product architecture — for a multi-functional aerobic step platform targeting home and outdoor fitness use during the COVID-19 pandemic. The project followed the structured product design and development (PD&D) methodology under Dr. Jamal Arghavani at Sharif University of Technology, combining academic rigor with real-market validation through direct customer interviews across multiple user segments.

Customer needs identification produced a prioritized requirements set: compatibility with resistance bands, dumbbells, pull-up and parallel bars; impact resistance for jump training; minimal vibration under dynamic loading; single-person portability; and fitment in a standard car trunk. Technical specifications were benchmarked against competing products and patents. Conceptual design explored adjustable-height mechanisms, internal storage configurations for kettlebells and barbell plates, nylon clip attachment points for resistance bands, and integrated pull-up bar slots across multiple design variants.

The selected two-chunk modular architecture separates a structural lower base (field-repairable via screwed EVA-foam-surfaced panels) from an interchangeable upper platform chunk (integrally machined, user-selectable by exercise type). Preliminary BOM includes compressed wood/plastic panels, 8 mm steel rods, EVA foam layers, nylon band clips, and ~25 fasteners. Unit production cost was estimated at ~750,000 IRR with target retail at ~1,000,000 IRR. A business model and 1-year development timeline were developed, estimating a 10-person core team and ~5 billion IRR total development investment.
